Électriciennes’ new video launches to heavy rotation

It takes only one scene – a few minutes into the film – for Nutsa Kukhianidze to set the screen on fire. “Promise I Won’t Regret This” was penned after Charlie saw “The Good Thief” – the massively underrated masterpiece written and directed by Neil Jordan and based on Melville’s “Bob Le Flambeur“.

Besides the obvious (the sensual flair of Kukhianidze’s “Anne” is the most disturbing since Nabokov) there is a captivating grittiness, loneliness and a surprisingly narrow gap that separates both extremes of high and low living.

The song plays tribute to the story in the movie (hence the line: ‘promise I won’t regret it’), but the band didn’t want it to be ABOUT the movie. They wrote about a dysfunctional relationship between a powerful, abusive man, and a vengeful woman who can’t seem to break free despite her better judgement.

The video was written and directed by Charlie and features DJ and model CJ Jones. The storyline revolves around the concept of double exposure, representing the more ‘innocent’ nature of the woman with a ‘child’ version of herself, against the sensual nature of the grown up adult – and the conflict that arises from inhabiting both these emotional states.

In April 2019 the videoclip was accepted and broadcast by MTV Lat Am and Much Music.
