Strange dreams are made of this

The installation feels oneiric and surreal – at the same time futuristic, and reminiscent of a by-gone era. You let yourself be swallowed by the performance, while 3D projections encroach upon your senses like melancholic ghosts awakening in a long abandoned manor. And as you try to take it all in, quadraphonic sound grabs your attention by the balls.

InstrumentoOptico (I.O), the unassailable chimeric world dreamed up by Josefina Barreix, is a chameleonic, multi-sensory experiment, in constant conversation with a plethora of artistic disciplines, and music at its heart.

And what a dark, powerful, captivating heart that is! Like a phantasmagoric apparition, like a siren’s call, it is impossible to look away. EAT/KISS is proud to be a sponsor of one of the most exciting artistic performances out of Argentina, or elsewhere.

I.O has been selected to participate in MUTEK’s Buenos Aires edition in September, 2019 (based in Montreal, MUTEK is dedicated to the dissemination and development of digital creativity in sound, music and audio-visual art). And one month later, Andrés Marino and Josefina will take the show to a selected few dates in Europe, starting in Paris in October.

The group captured their live performance in a featurette directed by Josefina Barreix (aka jsfnbrrx). The video is the collaborative work of Andrés MarinoDiego Dorado, Franco Verrascina (aka Frenetik Void),  sofjaMaria Eugenia GarcíaFrancisca ArmandoAlex Levinton and jsfnbrrx – all in all a solid set of multidisciplinary artists, each of them a commandeering force in their own fields, who come together to hold the illusion long enough to open a door to a time and space different from ours.
